The Hadejia Jama'are Komadugu Yobe Basin (HJKYB) covers a total area of about 148,000 km2 in north east Nigeria (95% of basin area) and south east Niger (5%). The basin is drained by two main river sub-systems. The first sub-system, the Yobe River, is formed by the Hadejia and Jama'are tributaries, which create the Hadejia Nguru floodplain at their juncture. The second sub-system is the Komadugu Gana River. Historically, it is a tributary of the Yobe River.
